Four bags of sand in the back to dea l with winter. Just like I used to do. It works. I sure like having snow tires these days.

It’s a little bit farther than driving down to Olympia but the traffic isn’t as bad.

This year I fired a plastic I kea bin with 2 bags into my trunk and used some bung ee cords to secure it to the rear. Wish I would have done it years past.

I used to put cinder blocks in the back of my truck. Then one day after school I found my truck up on those blocks. My friends, the conspirators, refused to help me get it off the blocks, so I was stuck using a scissor jack in the snow while most of my schoolmates walked by and laughed.

Lesson learned.

Also rocking 4 bags for winter in my ranger! I built a little wooden “I” for the bed to keep the sand over the rear axle. Sand plus BFGK02's have made it a non issue driving in snow.

Yep, I had built that same wooden “ I” out of 2x6 scraps . With snow tires though, I don’t bother with sand bags anymore.

Harsh.

One night in high school, the coworker plowing the parking lot of the hard ware store/lumber yard where we worked, placed all the snow from that part of the lot in a massive U-shaped snow bank up to the belt- line of my Oldsmobile around both sides and the back of it . They all laughed and took off at closing time. I had to get the manager to unlock the store, so I could get a shovel to dig my way out.

Yeah, it’s pretty much a wash.

I actually might leave the “I”. I used 2x10's and I carry more small stuff than bed sized stuff. So the I creates great compartments for bags of mulch/gas cans/propane cylinders etc

FWD is nice sometimes, but torque isn’t in these conditions, even on my winter tires. Barely made it up a hill when a truck in front of me decided to stop in the middle of it and I had a hard time getting going again on the cobblestone-like ice. 1st was absolutely useless everywhere, the car just spun the wheels...

It's a good truck. Just a steep price.

Thanks! I was thinking of making one of these but it looks like it takes up a lot a room.

It does. I just cut them to fit in the “slots” that are already molded into the bed liner, then sunk two screws into each end so that it can be removed easily.

My actual plan now is to remove the bottom of the I, leaving the back part (closest to the cab) and splitting the space behind it for the summer time. That way I still have plenty of room in the bed, and two sections behind the cab. Also only two screws if I want to dismantle it.

Oh I don't have the slots on my truck. That might change things a bit.

They’re very loose fitting, so you need a middle support either way, but they do help with sliding
